GIP - Sam
00:00 / 1:08:40

In this session we meet Sam who learns more about the Part of her who eats in secret, and how her past continues to inform the present. There is a shift as she discovers the positive intention of one of her critical Parts, creating space for compassion and connection inside. Sam has some knowledge of Parts and this is her first experience being guided to go inside and connect with her Parts.

Key Parts

  • A Part who eats in secret

  • A Part who is critical and angry (about the secret eating).

Other Parts

  • A Part who needs to make sense of things (described as overcurious)

  • A Part who feels frustrated

  • A Part that is motivated to find solutions

  • A Part who is consumed by thoughts about food

  • A Part that is fearful of hunger

  • A Part who is critical and disappointed

  • A Part who helps Sam to zone out.

I noticed a number of my Self Like Parts and Therapists Parts were present during this session and at times I felt quite blended with these Parts. Although I was working on unblending throughout the session, I suspect the lack of Self Energy coming from my system impacted Sam and her Parts. There were at times more managerial Self Like Parts present in Sam's system.

I often feel torn when Self Like Parts show up in the other person. Self Like Parts are not Self, yet have some self energy, bring gifts and have value. A Part of me believes they can truly be enough for now (until it feels safe enough for Parts to connect more fully with Self). Another Part of me holds judgement that Self Like Parts are not ‘as good as’ Self and that if Self Like Parts are present we are not 'getting it right'. That judgement brought some shame to my system which I needed to attend to after the session.

Early in the session Sam shared her experience of eating in secret when she was younger and the fear she experienced of being discovered. This was a missed opportunity to offer some compassion to this younger Part and develop the Self to Part relationship.

There was a brief mention of a Part who believes other people think it's not capable. I’m curious about why I didn’t explore this further as this felt an important trailhead to a core belief.

I would like to have asked Sam to pause at a various stages in the session so I could spend some time connecting with my Parts and creating more space for them so I could be more fully present with her.

In case we haven't met yet, I'm Celia, a therapist and course creator who helps smart, sensitive women all over the world do the deeper work so they can finally be at peace with food, their body and themselves.

I am super creative and love learning new ways to share what I know, so that women no longer have to carry the toxic stories they have been told about their bodies and about their place in this world. There is nothing more fulfilling to me than witnessing a woman heal and step into her light.

I also share my passion for the Parts Work approach with other therapists, so they too, can integrate this compassionate, holistic and deeply transformative approach into their practice.
