Today we meet Laura. Laura is new to working with her system and the inner world of her Parts.

WHO SHOWED UP…

Key Parts

  • A Justice Part who doesn’t want Laura’s light to go out

  • A Fearful Part who is concerned the Justice Part will be too much and Laura will be judged.

  • A Protective Part who monitors what the Justice Part says. It also supports other Parts to manage anger and resentment (e.g. Parts that previously engaged in excessive exercise and limiting food).

Other Parts

  • A Critical Part

  • A Part that carries resentment

  • A Part who deeply loves her children and husband

  • A Part who self conscious about the body and the changes over the last few years

  • A Part who feels a loss of self in meeting the demands of family life

  • A Part motivated to engage in exercise

  • A Part who wants to model a healthy relationship with food and movement.

WHAT I NOTICED…

I am a mother who has also struggled to find the balance between meeting the demands of family life and meeting my own needs, and I noticed some of my Parts beginning to over identify with Laura’s experience. I asked these Parts to soften back so I could remain curious.

I also have a strong Justice Part who carries anger and resentment. I asked my Justice Part to step back as I could sense it wanting to dialogue with some intensity. This gave space for Laura’s Justice Part to share it’s experience with her (rather than be pulled into connection with a Part of me).

WHAT I’D DO DIFFERENTLY…

I have a Critical Part who often shows up when doing Implicit Direct Access. It believes that I ‘should’ be able to support the Self to Part connection with others at all times. I felt this Part dominated at various points throughout the session. I would have liked to have had the courage to ask for a pause so that I could invite this Part more formally to step back.

Half way through the session I noticed doubt around the level of Self Energy available and a Part of me felt stuck and began to take up space. On reflection this was triggered by my Critical Part. Again, asking my Critical Part to soften back would have created more space for Self Energy and been supportive for Laura’s process.

Following the session, Laura noticed her system was calmer than usual, and she was able to check in with her Justice Part briefly each day to build trust with this key Part.

HEY THERE!

In case we haven't met yet, I'm Celia, a therapist and course creator who helps smart, sensitive women all over the world do the deeper work so they can finally be at peace with food, their body and themselves.

I am super creative and love learning new ways to share what I know, so that women no longer have to carry the toxic stories they have been told about their bodies and about their place in this world. There is nothing more fulfilling to me than witnessing a woman heal and step into her light.

I also share my passion for the Parts Work approach with other therapists, so they too, can integrate this compassionate, holistic and deeply transformative approach into their practice.
