Today we meet Jane. Jane has some understanding of Parts and this is her first 1:1 session focusing on Parts.
WHO SHOWED UP…
Key Parts
-
A People Pleasing Part who is so tired of giving so much and getting so little back
-
A young part who feels unloved and unworthy who carries hurt and shame.
Other Parts
-
A Part who wants to eat healthily
-
A Part who is tired of the limitations around food
-
A Part who is anxious around not having enough or when hungry
-
A Part who responds to the anxiety by eating more
-
A Part who enjoys eating
-
A Part who uses food as a reward
-
A Part who uses food to squash feelings down.
WHAT I NOTICED…
Early on I noticed a Part in me holding anxiety around the process. As the intensity was unusual, I wondered if I was picking this up from Jane’s system. As I offered the Part in me some compassion and recognition, it began to soften and I was aware of a softening in Jane’s system too.
I also became aware of a heaviness in me as the intensity of Jane’s emotional experience increased. This heaviness did not feel like my own and gave me a sense there is more being held in her system that is yet to emerge.
WHAT I’D DO DIFFERENTLY…
Around halfway a Part shared its fear of a big feeling. I commented that ‘it often feels really big’. Listening back, I felt this really dismissed the Parts experience and was a missed opportunity to fully validate its fear in the moment.
I would have liked to have been more explicit around the relationship between the two key Parts we focused on. There was a shift from the People Pleaser Part to the young Part it was attempting to protect and at times it felt as if they became enmeshed and the process lacked clarity.

HEY THERE!
In case we haven't met yet, I'm Celia, a therapist and course creator who helps smart, sensitive women all over the world do the deeper work so they can finally be at peace with food, their body and themselves.
I am super creative and love learning new ways to share what I know, so that women no longer have to carry the toxic stories they have been told about their bodies and about their place in this world. There is nothing more fulfilling to me than witnessing a woman heal and step into her light.
I also share my passion for the Parts Work approach with other therapists, so they too, can integrate this compassionate, holistic and deeply transformative approach into their practice.
